Box Score The Dominican University baseball team was on the wrong side of a 4-3 non-conference baseball game with the University of Chicago Maroons on Tuesday afternoon at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium. The Maroons tallied the winning run in the top of the ninth as Claude Lockhart roped an RBI single through the right side.
Freshman
Cody Mueller (Addison, Ill.) was tagged with the loss one day after picking up a win in game two of the Stars' twin bill against Wisconsin Lutheran. Coming out of the bullpen on Tuesday, Mueller was charged with one run on two hits and two walks while striking out one over two innings.
Lockhart picked up the complete-game victory for the Maroons, surrendering three runs, one earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Lockhart was the beneficiary of some fine defense by the Maroons, throwing out three would-be base runners trying to steal and rolling a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play in the bottom of the fifth. Lockhart also benefitted from some Dominican base running gaffes as the Stars were picked off base in the bottom of the fifth, seventh and eighth innings.
Offensively,
Tim Dernulc (Dyer, Ind.) went 3-for-3 at the plate while
Adam Quinn (Lockport, Ill.) added two hits for the Stars, going 2-for-4.
Lenny Cunzalo (Chicago, Ill.), the Stars' top run producer, drove in a pair of runs on sacrifice flies in the first and third innings. The senior now has 27 RBI on the season.
The loss drops Dominican to 12-12 on the season with cross-town rival, the Concordia Chicago Cougars coming to Schaumburg Boomers Stadium for a noon doubleheader. The Cougars currently sit one game ahead of the Stars in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) standings at 5-3.
