Box Score 2 FOREST PARK, Ill. – The visiting Spartans of Aurora University swept the Stars today in Northern Athletics Conference action, dropping Dominican’s record to 15-17 overall and 8-8 in league play. With a lone single in the first inning of game one, Sarah Budz tied the NAC All-Time record for total bases (347).
Game one would see no score until the third inning, when the Spartans (16-12, 11-3 NAC) used a two-run homer to take the game’s first lead in the top half of the frame. But the Stars would answer back with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning, as
Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.),
Amy Paolini (Lemont, Ill.), and
Erica King (Lyons, Ill./St. Joseph) each brought a teammate in to score.
But that would be the last of the Stars’ offense, as they went without a hit for the remainder of game one while the Spartans regained the lead in the fifth on another long-ball and scored another run in the seventh to bring game one to its final score of 5-3.
Corinne Wimmer (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Stars offensively, while
Jori Cicale (Steger, Ill./Marian Catholic) took the loss, bringing her record to 9-8 this season in the circle.
In game two, the visiting Spartans took the lead right away in the first inning, and never looked back as they completed the sweep with a game two score of 6-1.
Five Stars would record hits in the game, but it would be Wimmer’s infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning that brought
Tayler Miller (Elkhart, Ind./Memorial) across the plate for the Stars’ only score in the game.
Emily Mahoney (Crystal Lake, Ill./South) suffered the loss in the circle, but gave up only one earned run, as her defense committed four errors in the game. Mahoney also tallied eight strikeouts in the loss.
The Stars will look to get back on track this Saturday, April 21, as they host the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College in a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
