Box Score 2 The Dominican University baseball team picked up a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) doubleheader victory on Sunday, sweeping the Lakeland College Muskies to move to 16-17 overall and 7-9 in conference.
With the score knotted at 4-4Â in the ninth, the Stars pushed across four runs in the top of the ninth en route to a 7-4 victory, starting with an bases loaded walk drawn by freshman
Tim Varallo (Chicago, Ill.) after the Muskies issued an intentional walk to
Chris Garvey (Niles, Ill.) who had two hits already in the game. Â After the walk by Varallo,
Adam Quinn (Lockport, Ill.) roped an RBI single to center before
Jon Basinski (Chicago, Ill.) reached on an error, sending home Garvey.
Zack Roszak (South Chicago, Ill.), who came on for the final two outs in the bottom of the eighth, pitched around a two-out single in the ninth to pick up the win for the Stars and improve to 3-3 on the season.
Garvey and Basinski had two hits apiece and each logged one RBI while
Chris Kemp (Oak Lawn, Ill.) went 1-for-2 with a pair of sacrifices and two runs batted in.
In game two, Dominican opened up a 6-2 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth, cruising to an 11-5 win.
Sean Bolton (Western Springs, Ill.) picked up the win on the mound, his first in nearly a month, to improve to 5-4. Â The senior right-hander, surrendered five runs, three earned, on ten hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out three.
Offensively, Quinn and Basinski, the Stars' first and second hitters, went a combined 7-for-12 and had two stolen bases apiece to set the table for Dominican.
The Stars will travel to North Central College on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup before heading to Watertown, Wis., to take on the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders in a NAC twin bill. Â Heading into the final two weeks on conference play, the Stars stand in seventh place, just one game out of the sixth and final spot in the 2012 NAC Baseball Tournament.
