Stars Finish Fifth In Men’s Tennis NAC Standings

The Dominican University men’s tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) dual matches late Saturday, topping the Rockford College Regents 8-1 before falling to the Aurora University Spartans 8-1.  The split pushes the Stars record to 5-4 in the NAC and secures the fifth-seed for the Stars in the 2012 NAC Team Tournament.

After running their record to 10-1 with a win over Rockford, the Stars’ top doubles team of Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Greg Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.) fell for the first time in conference play at number one doubles with an 8-4 loss at the hands of Aurora’s Ricky Hernandez and Matt Butler.

Tabaka closes out the NAC regular season with a 7-2 mark at number two doubles, topping Rockford’s Matt Saelens 6-0, 6-1 and Aurora’s Brian Koski 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.  Tabaka earned the lone point for the Stars in the loss to the Spartans.

The NAC Team Tournament opens play on Monday with the Stars traveling to Aurora to take on the Spartans in a rematch.  The match time is yet to be determined.
