Cicale Leads Stars To Twin Bill Victory Over Rockford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jori Cicale (Steger, Ill.) tossed a combined eight innings in both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader victory for Dominican University over the Rockford College Regents, surrendering just seven hits and one earned run while striking out 13 would-be hitters.
 
Cicale picked up the complete-game win in game one, 3-1, setting down 13 hitters in a row after allowing a leadoff double to Jossilyn Jones to start the game.  During the stretch, Cicale struck out the side in the second and third innings, finishing game one with 11 strikeouts.
 
Sarah Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) got the Stars on the board in the third with an RBI double to right-center.  Emily Mahoney (Crystal Lake, Ill.) followed with a ground out to the pitcher that scored Melissa Summaria (Algonquin, Ill.).  Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.) added an RBI single in the Stars’ half of the fourth.
 
Rockford finally got to Cicale for a run in the fifth as Katy Atkerson doubled off the left field fence to plate Alexis Ford.
 
Dominican finished game one with 11 hits, two each from Corinne Wimmer (Elgin, Ill.), Tayler Miller (Elkhart, Ind.) and Budz, while the Regents managed just five hits off of the Stars’ ace.
 
In game two, Cicale left the game with a 5-0 lead after the first inning, pitching around a pair of two-out singles before the Stars roughed up Rockford’s Sarah Moritz for five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.  Cicale then gave way to Marissa Grey (Elk Grove, Ill.) and Sarah Slouber (Willow Springs, Ill.).  The three held Rockford to just three hits in the ball game to pick up the Stars’ second shutout of the season.
 
Dominican now stands at 12-12 on the season and 5-3 in the NAC.  The Stars return to the diamond on Wednesday, hosting the Benedictine University Eagles for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader in Forest Park.
