Baseball Season Draws To A Close

Box Score The 2012 Dominican University baseball season drew to close on Friday evening, as the Stars suffered their second loss of the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Baseball Tournament, closing the season at 21-22 overall.

The Concordia University Chicago Cougars dealt the Stars a 22-0 loss after the Stars staved elmination earlier in the day when they knocked off the Edgewood College Eagles 6-5.

Junior right-hander Mitch McCaffery (Johnson Creek, Wis.) took the ball in the game against the Cougars, just six hours after making the start in the win over Edgewood.  McCaffery lasted just an inning and two-thirds, surrendering four runs, but only one earned, on six hits while walking none and striking out one.

The Cougars pounded out 21 hits in the win while the Stars managed five, one each for Adam Quinn (Lockport, Ill.), Casimir Zwiazek (Chicago, Ill.), Chad Wickless (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Chris Garvey (Niles, Ill.) and Garrett Flavin (Chicago, Ill.).

Dominican's 21-22 mark ties the program's single-season win record from 2006 when Dominican went 21-21 and earned the program's only trip to the NCAA Division III Regionals by winning the Lake Michigan Conference Tournament.  The Stars went 11-11 in NAC regular season games, earning the program's first bid to the NAC Tournament and just second post-season appearance since Dominican joined the NCAA Division III ranks in 2000.
