Box Score MILWAUKEE – Down 4-0 in their final at bat, and with just two hits on the board, the Stars put together a two-hit, two-run seventh inning to threaten Concordia University Wisconsin’s lead, but fell short in game two of the Northern Athletics Conference Softball Tournament.
The Stars’ (21-20) seventh-inning rally started with an
Amy Paolini (Lemont, Ill.) double to right-center field with one out already on the board. Paolini would then advance on a wild pitch by the Falcons (25-14) before designated player
Amanda Moran (River Grove, Ill./East Leyden) reached base on balls to put runners on the corners for the Stars.
A
Sarah Budz (Orland Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) sacrifice fly would then score Paolini and keep the Stars from being shut out in their 2012 NAC Tournament opener, and
Corinne Wimmer (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) followed that up with a two-out triple to score Moran. But it would be all the Stars would manage as the inning and game ended just before sundown.
Emily Mahoney (Crystal Lake, Ill./South) suffered the loss in the circle, giving up eight hits and four earned runs in six innings pitched.
The Stars move on to face the loser of tomorrow’s 9 a.m. game between No. 1 seed Benedictine University (30-9) and No. 4 seed Marian University (21-18). Facing elimination, the Stars will look to rebound in a 3 p.m. first pitch contest.
