In the Stars’ 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-19) win over Lakeland, Dominican posted an impressive .339 attack percentage as a team paced by Lawrence who knocked down 14 kills on 25 attacks while committing just three errors. Junior
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) logged nine kills on 16 attacks while committing just one error while freshman
Olivia Szuszkiewicz (Bartlett, Ill.) added seven kills on 19 attacks with just two errors.
Defensively, the Stars forced the Muskies to hit just .168, posting eight total blocks, including one solo and three block assists for Lawrence who finished with a match-high 16.5 points.
The win put the Stars in the first and second place match where they would meet the Willamette University Bearcats who took the Stars to five sets in the opening match of the tournament. The Bearcats proved formidable foes again for the Stars, taking the Stars to the fifth set again where the Stars would prevail, 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-27, 15-9).
Lawrence saved her best performance of the tournament for the finals, accounting for 35 of her team’s 86 points on 29 kills, five aces and two block assists. Dezelski added 13 kills while Guerrieri dished out 53 assists.
Defensively, the Stars dug over half the Bearcat attacks, racking 106 digs as a team on 200 total attacks for Willamette.
Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Wis.) posted a match-high 28 digs to lead six Stars in double-figures in digs. Dezelski posted 15 digs while freshman
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) added 14.
With four wins in their own tournament, Dominican runs it record to 6-2 on the season. The Stars return to action on Tuesday night, beginning its Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) title defense against neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Igini Sports Forum.
