Tomcats Defeat Stars in Final Game of Florida Swing

Box Score The Dominican University baseball team was upended by the Thiel College Tomcats, 4-2 on Saturday in Fort Myers, Fla., at Terry Park.

A strong performance on the mound could not help capture a win for the Stars as Mitch McCaffery (Johnson Creek, Wis.) tossed a complete game for the Stars.  Over eight innings, McCaffery gave up four runs, three earned, on 13 hits and one walk while striking out two.  Tagged with the loss, McCaffery fell to 0-1 in making his second start of the season.

Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) was a bright spot for the Stars offensively.  Schuster, 2-for-3 in the loss, launched a solo homerun in the fifth inning to left field, to knot the game at 1-1.

As a team, the Stars had eight hits but left nine runners stranded on the day.

Matt Elko picked up the win for the Tomcats.  Elko gave up one run on three hits, three walks and five strikeouts.  The save was credited to Parker Miles.

The loss concluded play in Fort Myers, Fla., for the Stars, who closed out the trip with 2-5 record.  The Stars, who have arrived back in River Forest on Saturday night, are scheduled to return to the diamond next weekend in Crawfordsville, Ind.  They will have a small road trip of four games in two days.  The Stars will take on John Carroll University and then Wabash College on March 16th.  First pitch will be at 1:00 PM CT sharp.  Live statistics will be available for all the games on the Indiana road trip.
