Emily Mahoney (Crystal Lake, Ill.), the Stars’ top pitcher at 7-1 on the season, added to her conference-best total as she fanned nine hitters in four innings of work as the pitcher of record for the Stars in game one. Mahoney allowed a single to right to Jessica Segalla to lead off the bottom of the first for the Regents but did not surrender another hit the rest of the game. Mahoney and
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.), who came on to pitch a scoreless fourth inning, did issue seven free passes combined but combined for the shutout.
At the plate, the Stars banged out 12 hits in game one, led by freshman
Armani Procter (Chicago, Ill.) who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in.
Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.),
Julia Smith (Bartlett, Ill.) and Mahoney also had two hits apiece.
In game two, the Stars staked starting pitcher
Sarah Slouber (Willow Springs, Ill.) to a 7-0 lead in the top of the second as Dominican pounded out seven hits and took advantage of a pair of Rockford errors in the second frame. Slouber broke the game open with a bases loaded single that plated two runs.
Dominican extended the lead, tacking on three more runs in the top of the fourth, including a two-run, opposite field home run off the bat of Mahoney.
Procter and Mahoney rapped out two more hits apiece in the winning effort while
Erica King (Lyons, Ill.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in.
Slouber improved to 3-3 on the season as she picked up the complete-game victory. Slouber surrendered two runs, one earned, on five hits while walking none and punching out four.
