Stars Swept By Cougars

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Dominican University baseball team was swept by the Concordia Chicago Cougars in a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars took game one 10-0 in seven innings before earning the sweep with a 6-1 win in game two.

Cody Mueller (Addison, Ill.) was tagged with the game one loss as he lasted just two-thirds of an inning, giving up three unearned runs on one hit, two walks, one hit batter and two Dominican University errors.

The Stars managed just five hits in the loss, three off the bat of freshman Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) who went 3-for-3 with a double in the game.

In game two the Stars managed to get one runner across in the ninth inning to avoid the shutout. Richie Green (Chicago, Ill.) hit a single to left field and Adam Quinn (Libertyville, Ill.) was able to score from second as he took advantage of a fielding miscue by the Cougars. to reach third base. Green was 2-for-4 for the game as the Stars managed seven hits in game two.

Ryan Kukla (Chicago, Ill.) received his first loss of the season. Kukla tossed six innings, gave up six runs on 12 hits, and two walks. Kukla is now 2-1 on the year. Josh Venhuizen (Evergreen Park, Ill.) came in to relief to start the seventh and let no Cougars cross the dish. Venhuizen's strong pitching only gave up one hit to close the day.

The Stars return to Schaumburg tomorrow for a doubleheader versus Benedictine University at their home diamond at Boomers Stadium.
