Box Score 2 The Dominican University softball team got back on track with a doubleheader victory over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors in Milwaukee, Wis., on Saturday afternoon.
Erica King (Lyons, Ill.) drove in a pair of runs on a single down the right field line in the top of the third and
Emily Mahoney tossed six shutout innings as the Stars topped the Warriors 3-0 in game number one.
After allowing a leadoff single in the bottom of the first, Mahoney retired 15 straight before being lifted in the top of the sixth with a 3-0 lead.
Sarah Slouber (Willow Springs, Ill.) pitched around a leadoff single and a walk, escaping the sixth unscathed.
In the seventh, Mahoney returned to the circle with the bases loaded and nobody out and slammed the door on the Warriors’ offense. Mahoney got the first hitter she faced to pop out to third base before racking up back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.
Mahoney got eleven strikeouts in six innings of work to pick up her 13
th win of the season, improving to 13-4.
King went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI while
Kaitlin Barajas (Dyer, Ind.) was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored.
Mahoney continued to mow down the Warriors in game two, tossing five shutout innings while surrendering just three hits and one walk before giving way to
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) to start the sixth. Locher made just one mistake in her two innings of work, giving up a two-run home run to Tara Degl’Innocenti with one out in the sixth.
The Stars picked up an unearned run in the third as Barajas reached on an error, plating
Melissa Summaria (Algonquin, Ill.) who led off the frame with a double.
Andrea Pinarski (Goshen, Ind.) extended the lead with a bases loaded double down the left field line with two outs in the fifth to open a 4-0 lead.
Dominican then capped the day’s scoring as Slouber laced an RBI double and then scored as
Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.) followed with a single to center.
Summaria picked up three hits, including two doubles, as she went 3-for-3 to push her average to .342 with seven doubles.
The sweep improves the Stars to 20-8 and 12-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with another conference twinbill on Sunday. Dominican will play host to the Lakeland College Muskies with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch at the Stars’ home field in Forest Park, Ill.
