Stars Overpowered By Unbeaten Cardinals

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Dominican University softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader with the North Central Cardinals on Tuesday, falling in game one 8-0 and then 15-0 in game two.

Emily Mahoney (Crystal Lake, Ill.) kept the Stars close in game one, surrendering just one run on one hit in the first four innings. In the top of the fifth the Cardinals touched Mahoney for three runs, only two earned, on three hits and two Dominican errors to take a 4-0 lead.

The Cardinals tacked on two more runs in each the top of the sixth and the top of the seventh as the Stars committed two more errors in the sixth.

Offensively, the Stars managed just three base-runners all game on two hits and one walk. Erica King (Lyons, Ill.) and Andrea Pinarski (Goshen, Ind.) managed the only hits for the Stars, each going 1-for-2 at the plate with a single.

Mahoney was tagged for the loss, falling to 7-2 on the year as she surrendered six runs, just three earned, on six hits and three walks while punching out seven.

Vlasta Mangia remained unbeaten in the circle for the Cardinals, tossing the complete-game, two-hit shutout. Mangia walked one and struck out five in the winning effort.

The Cardinals carried the momentum from the game one win into the nightcap, putting up ten runs in the top of the first before the Stars had a chance to go to work offensively.

For the Cardinals, Andrea Starr picked up the game two win, allowing just one hit and one walk as she blanked the Stars for five innings.

The twinbill loss drops the Stars to 12-6 on the season while North Central improved to 18-0 with the non-conference victories. Dominican will be back in action on Monday, hosting the Marian University Sabres for a noon doubleheader in Forest Park.
