Stars Roll In Non-Conference Action

Box Score The Dominican University Stars defeated the IIT Scarlet Hawks 12-3 in non-conference play in Schaumburg on Thursday afternoon.

Six pitchers took to the bump for the Stars in the winning effort, surrendering three runs on ten hits and six walks while striking out six. The most effective arm for the Stars was Robert Bavone (Bellwood, Ill.) who picked up his first collegiate win. Over two innings, Bavone allowed no runs while scattering two hits. Bavone stranded a runner at second in the top of the third and used a double play ball in the top of the fourth after allowing a leadoff single.  The freshman right-hander’s record goes to 1-1 on the season.

Offensively, the Stars put up eight runs over the first five innings and never looked back.  The Stars rapped out 14 hits led by Tim Varallo (Chicago, Ill.) who saw his batting average climb 21-points on the day to .288 after going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI.  His two-run single through the left side with two outs in the third really broke the game open for the Stars, putting Dominican on top 5-0.

Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.) added to his team-leading 14 RBI with three runs batted in despite going 1-for-5 at the plate while Richie Green (Chicago, Ill.) plated two runners while going 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.

The Stars return to the field for a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader against the Marian University Sabres at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
