Men’s Tennis Splits NAC Duals To Open Conference Play

The Dominican University men’s tennis team returned to the courts on Saturday for the first time since late February, opening Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play with dual matches against the Marian University Sabres and the Edgewood College Eagles.

In the morning, the Stars swept through the Sabres 9-0.  The Stars number one doubles team of Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Greg Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.), the defending NAC Doubles Champions, breezed through the Sabres top doubles team of Rob Ogden and Andrew Bales, winning by a count of 8-0.  The duo continued its dominance at numbers one and two singles respectively, with Amarantos posting a 6-2, 6-2 win and Tabaka winning 6-2, 6-1.

At number five singles, Mohit Shekhar (Burbank, Ill.) blanked Marian’s Josh Heup 6-0, 6-0 for his second singles win.

In a 6-3 loss to the Eagles in the afternoon, Tabaka and Amarantos picked up the Stars lone point in doubles play, topping the Eagles number one doubles team of Patrick Lagman and Eric Gavinski 9-8 (7-4) to move to 4-2 in doubles play on the year.  However, needing four points in singles play, the Stars managed to win just the numbers two and five singles flights.  Tabaka picked up his fourth point of the day, winning 6-3, 6-3 at two singles while Adrian Chavez (Berwyn, Ill.) knocked off Ben Pratscher 7-5, 6-2 at number five singles.

After the split the Stars stand at 1-3 on the season.  Dominican returns to Taylor Park on Sunday morning, playing host the Lake Forest College Foresters for a non-conference dual match at 10:00 a.m.
