Stars Suffer Second Straight Home Loss

Box Score The Dominican University men's soccer team fell for the second straight match on their home turf, this time falling to the visiting Hope College Flying Dutchmen 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Stars came out strong in the first half, putting three shots on frame in the first 12 minutes of play but failing to find the back of the net. Dominican's best chance came in the 12th minute as Ryan Ybarra (Des Plaines, Ill.) found himself behind Hope's back line but Ybarra's shot went right into the arms of Ethan Beswick, the Flying Dutchmen's starting goalkeeper.

"We played an excellent opening 45 minutes," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' 19th-year head coach. "We executed our game plan and had the better scoring opportunities in the run of play but failed to capitalize."

The tides turned in the second half as Cameron Dice carried towards the endline in the 55th minute, serving a ball towards the Dominican six-yard box where Jason Muller was able to get on the end of it and find the back of the net for the first of his two goals on the afternoon to give Hope a 1-0 advantage.

Ten minutes later, Hope College defender Grant Neil started a counter, carrying the ball for nearly 40-yards before sliding a pass to David Porte who then scored his third goal of the season.

Muller added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to put the match out of reach.

"We abandoned our game plan in the second half and Hope made us pay for that," said Baumann. "We have yet to put together a complete game for 90 minutes."

The loss drops the Stars to 2-2-0 on the season. Dominican will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to North Park University to take on the Vikings. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
