Box Score 2 The Dominican University men's volleyball team picked up the first win in program history, avenging Saturday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of the McKendree University Bearcats with their own 3-1 victory (25-19, 25-14, 25-27, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee.
The Stars, paced by
Jeremy Royko's (Naperville, Ill.) 18 kills, posted a .333 attack percentage with 58 kills on 123 swings while committing just 17 errors.
Zachery Sinn (Winfield, Ill.) chipped in with 14 kills on 35 attempts without committing a single error to hit an even .400 in the winning effort.
Alex Coyne (Naperville, Ill.) ran the Stars' offense efficiently, dishing out 49 assists while posting three kills on five attacks.
Defensively, the Stars limited the Bearcats to .161 hitting percentage, forcing McKendree into 26 errors with the Stars collecting 40 digs and eight total blocks.
Mason Solbrig (Lake Villa, Ill.) got in on four total blocks while
Aidan Spangler (Western Springs, Ill.) tallied three assisted blocks.
Dominican followed up on its first win as an NCAA Division III program, taking a two-set lead over the MSOE Raiders before falling in five sets (23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-9).
Royko and Sinn continued to provide the Stars' offensive punch, knocking down 15 and 13 kills respectively but it was the Raiders' offense that overpowered the Stars, posting 61 kills to 30 errors on 140 attempts.
Sunday's split pushes the Stars to 1-3 on the season with Dominican returning to action on Tuesday when they host the St. Xavier University Cougars for a 7:00 p.m. match in the Igini Sports Forum.
