Box Score The Dominican University men's volleyball showed a little rust after a ten-day break between matches, falling to the visiting MSOE Raiders in five sets on Wednesday evening in the Igini Sports Forum.
The Stars slipped behind, dropping the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-21. Dominican managed just an .042 hitting percentage in the first two sets, committing 17 errors on 62 swings while knocking down 20 kills.
Across the net, the Raiders committed just ten errors in the first two sets while collecting 26 kills on 66 swings. MSOE also limited any Dominican runs, posting a 72 percent sideout percentage in the second set.
The Dominican offense sprang to life in the third and fourth sets, posting a .389 attack percentage with just eight errors in the two sets combined.
Zachery Sinn (Winfield, Ill.) led the comeback charge, knocking down ten of his team-high 17 kills as the Stars evened the match at 2-2.
Dominican's hopes for a come-from-behind win were dashed as the Raiders were near flawless in the deciding set, posting eight kills on nine swings and capitalizing on four attack errors by the Stars.
Sinn posted a .268 attack percentage with 17 kills to six errors on 41 attempts.
Charlie Spry (Barrington, Ill.) added 13 kills in the losing effort while
Brooks Nevrly (Downers Grove, Ill.) logged a team-high ten digs.
The Raiders were led by Nick Manning's 18 kills and 14 digs.
The loss drops the Stars to 5-5 on the season and 0-1 in the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) West Division. The road does not get any easier for Dominican's first-year program as they go on the road for their next six matches, including tilts with #1 SUNY New Paltz, #9 Carthage, #12 Stevens and #13 NYU.
