Box Score 2 The Dominican University softball team closed out a spring trip to the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday afternoon with a pair of wins over Bethany Lutheran College and the College of Wooster. With the wins, the Stars improve to 8-4 on the season, bringing a four-game winning streak back to the Chicagoland area.

The Vikings outhit the Stars 8-3 but the Stars took advantage of 15 free passes and three Bethany Lutheran errors to post the 8-1 victory.
The Dominican offense gave starting pitcher
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) a five-run lead before the sophomore hurler even set foot in the circle.
Ashley Rea (Lockport, Ill.) led off the first with a walk, reached second on a passed ball and then stole third.
Dominique Schneider (Lockport, Ill.) laid down a perfect bunt, scoring Rea from third.
Alyssa Domico (Naperville, Ill.) and
Armani Procter (Chicago, Ill.) drew walks around a lineout and later scored on a single to left by
Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.). Evans eventually came around to score as did
Catherine Conte (Elmwood Park, Ill.) courtesy of separate Viking errors.
Locher escaped the first unscathed, pitching around a pair of singles and an error. Locher got Amanna Berthusen on strikes, leaving the bases loaded.
The Stars tacked on two more in the top of the second, drawing four more walks and scoring on two wild pitches while Locher cruised through the second and third innings, setting the Vikings down one-two-three.
In the fourth, Schneider took over in the circle for Locher, surrendering a RBI triple to Rebecca Ludewig before sitting Andrea Donley down on strikes to end the threat.
In the top of the fifth, the Stars drew three more walks ahead of Rea who put the ball in play to score Conte, putting the Stars up 8-1.
In Schneider's second inning of work, the freshman escaped a second and third jam, this time sitting Allison Norton down on strikes.
After a scoreless sixth, Locher returned to the circle in the seventh to close out the victory and pick up the win. In total, Locher surrendered four hits over four innings of work, striking out three in moving to 5-2 on the season.
Evans, batting a team-best .500 on the week, went 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.

Freshman
Siena Gyure (Crown Point, Ind.) went the distance in the 8-0 win for the Stars, allowing just two hits over six innings while walking three and striking out three.
Leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, the Stars broke the game open with a five-run inning. With Rea at the plate, the first three runs of the frame came across on a Wooster error. Schneider then pushed across Rea on a two-out RBI single and then got into scoring position to score on
Kaitlin Barajas's (Dyer, Ind.) single up the middle.
The opportunistic Stars scored on a wild pitch in the fifth after
Kimberley Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) drew a leadoff walk. Giannini later capped the day's scoring with a bases loaded single in the top of the sixth.
Schneider, Evans and Giannini had two hits and one RBI apiece in the winning effort.
