Stars Downed By Fourth-Ranked Redmen

Box Score The Dominican University men's volleyball team went toe-to-toe with the Carthage College Redmen, ranked fourth in the latest AVCA Men's Division III Top 15 Poll, on Saturday evening falling in four sets, 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13. The Stars' win in the third set was the first set the CVC West Division front-running Redmen had dropped all season.

Zach Sinn (Winfield, Ill.) paced the Stars' offensive attack with ten kills on 28 attacks with just four errors for a .214 hitting percentage. The Stars' offensive catalyst all season, Sinn collected four kills on eights swings in the third set as Dominican posted a .290 hitting percentage in the set along with going 14-for-19 on sideouts. Alex Coyne (Naperville, Ill.) doled out 29 assists while Brooks Nevrly (Downers Grove, Ill.) logged a team-high 11 digs.

For the match, Dominican hit .164 with a .590 sideout percentage. The Stars had 45 digs and posted six total blocks. Across the net, Carthage hit .341 on the match, going 56-for-82 on sideouts. The Redmen collected 57 digs and tallied 11 total blocks. Jon Storm shined for the Redmen in the winning effort, posting 21 kills and 12 digs, one of three players for Carthage with a double-double.

The loss drops Dominican to 10-13 on the season and 2-5 in the CVC West Division heading into the final week of the regular season. The Stars, still fighting to climb into the top three in the CVC West and qualify for the conference tournament, will travel to MSOE on Tuesday night to take on the Raiders. Dominican will then hit the road for Cincinnati on Friday, taking on the College of Mount St. Joseph Lions before traveling to St. Louis on Saturday to close out the regular season against the Fontbonne University Griffins.
