Another Solid Outing Highlights Win Over Emerson

Box Score The Dominican University baseball team got its fourth quality start in as many games in 2014, as Chance Emlund (Chicago, Ill.) scattered two hits over six innings in the Stars' 12-0 shutout win over the Emerson College Lions on Wednesday morning in Fort Myers, Fla.

Emlund pitched around walks in the first and second and then negated a two-out double in the third when he got James Sullivan to fly out to Casimir Zwiazek (Chicago, Ill.) in left. Emlund then pitched into trouble in the top of the fourth, walking a batter and hitting another before escaping a first and third jam when he got Connor Damiano on strikes.

After striking out the side in the fifth, Emlund stranded a runner at third in the sixth before giving way to junior Ryan Freeman (Barrington, R.I.) who pitched around a leadoff single in the seventh for a scoreless inning of work to preserve the shutout.

Offensively, the Stars broke open the game in the fourth. Leading 3-0, the Stars pushed across four runs after two outs in the frame. Joe Krasny (Berwyn, Ill.), who led off the inning with a single, scored on a fielder's choice and the Stars then scored three runs after a pair of Emerson errors. Dominican tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and then closed out the scoring with three in the sixth, including a two-run single off the bat of Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.).

The Stars pounded out 11 hits in the win, led by Krasny who was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Zwiazek added two hits while Milne Rojek went 1-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and drove in three runs.

With the win, Dominican improves to 2-2 on the season. The Stars' pitching staff boasts a miniscule 1.12 earned run average through four games, holding opposing hitters to a .221 batting average. The Stars' staff has struck out 21 batters and walked just 13.

Dominican's full-squad will be back in action on Friday, when the Stars take on the Widener University Pride. Game time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Player Development Complex.
