The Stars' bats pounded out nine hits, pushing across eight runs, in a five-inning win over the Cougars on Wednesday morning. Senior
Kimberley Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) went 2-for-3 including a two-run home run to lead the Stars' offensive charge. Giannini's blast in the fourth scored
Gabriela Salinas (Austin, Texas) and put the Stars on top 4-0. Giannini later roped an RBI single as part of a four-run fifth inning to close out the win. Freshman
Dominique Schneider (Lockport, Ill.) laced a two-run double to left-center to put the game out of reach.
Â
Sophomore hurler
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) picked up the win, moving to 2-1 on the season as she surrendered just three hits and one walk over five innings.

The Stars managed just four hits off of the Ladies' Maddy Stark who moved to 3-0 on the season. Stark did not issue a single free pass to the Stars and allowed only two runners into scoring position, pitching out of a jam in the sixth when the Stars put runners at second and third with one out. Stark got the Stars'
Kaitlin Barajas (Dyer, Ind.) to go down on strikes before getting Gyure to pop out to first base.
Â
Gyure nearly matched Stark pitch-for-pitch minus the second inning when a one-out, RBI double off the bat of Lindsey Susolik plated Jane Ghublikian for the lone run of the game. Gyure escaped further damage in the second, stranding runners at second and third, with a lineout to
Alyssa Domico (Naperville, Ill.) at first and retiring the side on a fly out to
Ashley Rea (Lockport, Ill.) in centerfield.
Â
In total, Gyure scattered six hits over six innings. The Stars' freshman did not issue a free pass and recorded 11 outs by way of fly outs and six ground outs.
