Stars Hook Fighting Muskies On Getaway Day

Box Score

The Dominican University baseball team topped the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies, 7-3, on the Stars' final day at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

The hitting began right away as Joe Krasny (Berwyn, Ill.) smoked a single up the middle to score Tim Varallo (Chicago, Ill.) who got on base by a single to right center and moved over by a stolen second base.  In the third, Quentin Becquey (St. Julien Le Faucon, France) grounded into a double play, but managed to drive in Krasny to make it a 2-0.

Muskingum answered in the bottom of the fourth, plating a pair of runs to even the ballgame.

The Stars then exploded in the top of the sixth, putting four runs on the board.  Varallo hit a sac fly to score Richie Green (Chicago, Ill.).  Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.) followed with a duck snort single to score Thomas Smith (Lockport, Ill.).  The Stars did not stop there, tacking on a two RBI single by Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.).

The Stars tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Joe Lyons (Chicago Ridge, Ill.).

Ryan Kukla (Chicago, Ill.) was on the hill for Dominican, capturing his first win of the season.  Kukla gave up 11 hits, three earned runs and walked three, while striking out a pair.  In the bottom of the seventh, Cody Mueller (Addison, Ill.) came in with runners on first and second and two outs, taking the game the rest of the way to pick up the save.

Krasny, Smith and Schuster were the big bats for the day.  Krasny went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.  Krasny currently leads the Stars with a .429 batting average, .464 slugging percentage, and a .467 on-base percentage.  Krasny has 12 hits on the year, five runs, four RBIs and three stolen bases.  Smith went 3-for-5 on the day to boost his batting average to an even .300, while Schuster, who was the designated hitter for the game, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Stars' getaway victory improves their record to 3-4.  The Stars will return to the diamond Saturday for a short road trip to Crawfordsville, Ind.  The Stars will have a double header at Wabash College to start the trip off.  Game one will be against the Loras College Duhawks at 1:00 PM EST.  Immediately following, the Stars will take on the North Central College Cardinals.  To wrap up the road trip, DU will face the hosting Wabash College Little Giants at 1:00 PM EST on Sunday.
