Stars Run Win Streak To Six

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Dominican University softball team posted their fifth and sixth consecutive victories on Friday night, sweeping a doubleheader with the Edgewood College Eagles to move to 19-9 on the season and 10-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).

The Stars have a short turnaround, returning to the diamond on Saturday at noon in Rockford, taking on the Rockford University Regents.

Game One:  Dominican 4, Edgewood 2

Dominique Schneider (Lockport, Ill.) picked up the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits and one walk while striking out three.  Schneider, a freshman right-hander, moves to 7-2 on the season.

The Stars provided all of their offense in the top of the sixth, snapping a scoreless tie as Kaitlin Barajas (Dyer, Ind.) was hit by a pitch to force across Kimberley Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) who led off the frame with a single up the middle.  Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.) later singled up the middle to plate two runs for the Stars while Catherine Conte (Elmwood Park, Ill.) drove in her 12th run of the season with a single to cap the inning.

Edgewood got two runs back in their half of the sixth to cut the Stars' lead to 4-2 heading to the seventh.  Working in the seventh, Schneider pitched around a two-out single to close out the complete-game victory.

Game Two:  Dominican 10, Edgewood 0 (5 Inn.)

The Dominican offense left little doubt in game two, pushing across at least one run in each inning while holding the Edgewood Eagles off the board.  Giannini and Alyssa Domico (Naperville, Ill.) each went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles apiece.  Giannini drove in two runs and Domico one while the Dominican offense pounded out 12 hits and capitalized on three Edgewood errors.

Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) picked up the win, tossing four innings and giving up just two hits and two walks.  The sophomore hurler has not surrendered a run in her last three appearances, spanning 11 innings.  With the win, Locher stands at 8-4 on the season with a 2.50 earned run average.
