Box Score 2 The Dominican University baseball team pushed across four in the bottom of the seventh as the Stars took game two of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) doubleheader with the Aurora University Spartans on Saturday at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium to score a series split.
Trailing 6-5 in the seventh inning of game two,
Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.) pulled a two-run double down the first baseline to put the Stars in front.
Kevin Schwer (Evergreen Park, Ill.) followed with a single to right field scoring
Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.) and Milne Rojek, putting the Stars on top 9-6.
Dominican went on to win 9-7 to move to 17-9 overall and 6-4 in the NACC.
Quinten Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) tossed 3.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk to pick up the victory. Hayes moves to 2-0 on the season while
Cody Mueller (Addison, Ill.) came on to get the final out, getting Dillon Popovich to flyout to right with runners on first and second. Mueller needed just three pitches to pick up his third save of the season.
The Stars collected 11 hits in the win, including a bloop single to right in the bottom of the third by
Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) to run his hitting streak to 19 games.
Tim Varallo (Chicago, Ill.),
Thomas Smith (Lockport, Ill.) and
Joe Lyons (Chicago Ridge, Ill.) logged two hits apiece while
Quentin Becquey (St. Julien Le Faucon, France) went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.
In game one, the Spartans roughed up Dominican University ace
Mitch McCaffery (Johnson Creek, Wis.) for eight runs, seven earned, over eight innings.
Aurora rapped out 17 hits in a 9-5 win in game one.
For the Stars,
Joe Krasny (Berwyn, Ill.) followed his three home run performance on Wednesday, going 4-for-5 in the game one loss.
The Stars are slated to be back on the diamond tomorrow, traveling to Madison, Wis., to take on the Edgewood College Eagles. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
