Stars Drop Two To Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Dominican University baseball team dropped both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) doubleheader to the Edgewood College Eagles on Wednesday afternoon.  The Stars gave up three unearned runs in a 6-2 loss in game two and stranded the tying run at first in 5-3 loss in the series opener.
 
The losses drop the Stars to 17-11 overall and 6-6 in the NACC.  Dominican takes on NACC front-runner, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Saturday and host the Benedictine University Eagles on Monday at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium on Monday.
 
Game One:  Edgewood 5, Dominican 3
 
Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) cranked a solo home run in the top of the second to give the Stars an early 1-0 lead.
 
Edgewood pulled in front in the bottom of the second when Andrew Lauritzen blooped a double to center with the bases loaded, putting the Eagles on top 3-1.
 
In the top of the fifth, Joe Krasny (Berwyn, Ill.) bounced out to second with runners at second and third, pushing across Kevin Schwer (Evergreen Park, Ill.) who drew a leadoff walk to start the inning.
 
Edgewood tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, including an RBI single by Lauritzen, to open a 5-2 lead.
 
The Stars threatened in the eighth but stranded a pair of runners.  Dominican then led off the top of the ninth with back-to-back singles from Krasny and Schuster but managed just one run, stranding the tying run at first.
 
Cody Mueller (Addison, Ill.) took the loss on the mound for the Stars, being charged with five runs on seven hits and five walks over eight innings.  Mueller now stands at 1-2 on the season.
 
The Stars managed ten hits in the loss led by Schuster who went 3-for-4 with a home run.  Thomas Smith (Lockport, Ill.) added two hits, including a double.
 
Game Two: Edgewood 6, Dominican 2
 
Schuster scored again in the top of the second, this time taking advantage of an Eagle throwing error after Quentin Becquey (St. Julien Le Faucon, France) grounded into a fielder's choice.
 
Edgewood evened the score in the third when Alex Jaskulski singled to score Lauritzen.
 
Dominican pulled back ahead in the fifth when Smith singled to score Schwer but that was it for the Stars who managed just one hit and two base runners the rest of the way.
 
Edgewood plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth on four hits and three Dominican errors to take a 4-2 lead.  Jaskulski then added to the lead with a two run single in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Dominican managed just eight singles off of Edgewood's Andy Swanson who moves to 2-1 on the season.
 
Schuster did single in the second to extend his hitting streak to 21 games.
