Box Score 2 The Dominican University softball team cruised to their seventh and eighth straight victories, sweeping a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) doubleheader from the Rockford University Regents on Thursday afternoon.
Dominique Schneider (Lockport, Ill.) limited the Regents to one hit in a 9-0 five-inning victory in game one while
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) picked up the complete-game 7-2 victory in game two.
The Stars, now 21-9 overall and 12-2 in the NACC, return to the diamond on Saturday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans in a battle between the top two teams in the NACC. First pitch is scheduled for noon at the Stars' home field in Forest Park, Ill.
Game One: Dominican 9, Rockford 0 (5 Inn.) Schneider scattered one hit and two walks over four innings, moving to 8-2 on the season. Rockford's first and only hit came in the bottom of the fourth when Stefaney Kenworthy led off the inning with a bloop single to left.
Offensively, the Stars' bats rapped out 12 hits, two each for
Kaitlin Barajas (Dyer, Ind.),
Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.),
Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.),
Kimberley Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) and
Catherine Conte (Elmwood Park, Ill.). Barajas started to the offensive outburst with an RBI double in the top of the first. The Stars' slugger added a two-run double in the top of the fourth as she drove in three runs in the winning effort.
Game Two: Dominican 7, Rockford 2
Locher scattered four hits over seven innings as she tossed her team-leading fifth complete game of the season. The Stars' right-hander punched out seven would-be hitters, limiting the Rockford offense to just two runs.
Barajas jumpstarted the Stars' offense again, roping an RBI double in the top of the first as Dominican scored the first five runs in the game. Barajas picked up two more hits while Hausl plated a pair on a two-run single in the top of the seventh.
