Box Score 2 The Dominican University softball team captured a 4-2 win in extra innings of game two of a doubleheader with the MSOE Raiders on Saturday afternoon, snapping a six-game slide and sending the Stars into the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament on a winning note.
Kimberley Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth, launching her team-leading sixth home run of the season with
Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.).
Giannini then helped
Sarah Slouber (Willow Springs, Ill.) pick up her third win of the season, gunning down Julie Windish as she tried to steal second after a one-out single in the bottom of the eighth.
Dominican had trailed 2-0 into the top of the sixth before getting RBI singles from
Armani Procter (Chicago, Ill.) and
Ashley Rea (Lockport, Ill.) to even the score at 2-2.
Rea rapped out three hits in the winning effort while Giannini went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
Slouber tossed a complete game, scattering ten hits and three walks over eight innings while striking out three. The Raiders managed just two runs, one earned, off the Stars' junior right-hander.
In game one, the Stars managed just four hits behind starting pitcher
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) who took the loss in the circle. Locher was charged with just two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings.
The Stars finished the NACC regular season in fourth place and will take on the fifth-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in the first round of the NACC Tournament. The Stars and Falcons are slated to meet at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at Alverno Field in Milwaukee, Wis.
