The Dominican University men's tennis team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday, topping the Marian University Sabres 6-3 before falling to the Edgewood College Eagles, 9-0. The win over Marian University marked the first win for the Stars under first-year head coach Tyler Sonkin.
In the win over Marian, the Stars took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning both the one and two doubles flights. It was the second win for the Stars' number one doubles team of
Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and
Krystian Drozdz (Franklin Park, Ill.) while
Chandler Allen (Sterling, Ill.) and
Alex Dee (Park Ridge, Ill.) picked up their first victory as a tandem.
The Stars then took flights one through four singles to seal the victory. Dee picked up the tightest victory, topping the Sabres Spencer Braswell 6-2, 7-6.
After the win, Dominican jumped back on the road, traveling up to Madison to take on the Eagles. The Eagles blanked the Stars, dropping Dominican to 1-5 on the season, 1-1 in the NACC. Dominican will return to the courts next Saturday, April 12, hosting the Rockford University Regents and Aurora University Spartans in NACC action.
