The Dominican University men's tennis team opened the 2015 season on Saturday, splitting a pair of dual matches in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After falling 9-0 to the Calvin College Knights, the Stars scored a 6-3 win over the host Ripon College Red Hawks.
Dropping numbers one and two singles and number one doubles, the Stars posted victories and three, four and five singles and won by default at six singles.
Tarik Abdullah (Hickory Hills, Ill.) rolled the Red Hawks' Anders Goodwin in straight sets at number three singles, 6-0, 6-0. The Dominican freshman then teamed with sophomore
Quinn Porter (Michigan City, Ind.) for a tight 9-7 win at number two doubles.
Fellow freshmen
Camden Knights (Addison, Ill.) and
Frank Lally (Park Ridge, Ill.) also scored their first collegiate singles victories, winning at the fourth and fifth singles flights respectively.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Naperville, Illinois, where the Stars will take on the Webster University Gorloks and North Central College Cardinals.
