Stars Slip Past Cougars

With the score tied 4-4 and only number four doubles to play, Dominican University's John Mysz (LaGrange, Ill.) edged Concordia Chicago's Patrick McIntosh, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to secure the match-clinching point for the Stars as they edged the Cougars by the slimmest of margins.  With the win, the Stars improve to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a conference match against the Aurora University Spartans on deck for Saturday afternoon.

The Stars took a 2-1 lead after doubles, earning points at numbers two and three doubles.  Mysz and freshman Tarik Abdullah topped the Cougars number two doubles duo by an 8-4 count while Frank Lally and Logan Marvin picked up an 8-2 win at number three doubles.

Needing three points in singles action to secure the win, Dominican's Camden Knights and Frank Lally picked up wins at numbers three and five singles respectively.  Knights was taken to a tie-breaker by Concordia Chicago's Alex Vieaux with Dominican's freshman logging a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory to improve to an even 5-5 on the year in singles action.  Lally topped Niko Vercelletto in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

The Stars now stand in fourth place in the NACC standings with three conference matches to play before the end of the regular season.
