For the second straight day, the Dominican University men's tennis team squeaked out a 5-4 victory, topping the Aurora University Spartans on Saturday afternoon in Aurora. With the score knotted at 4-4, the Stars'
Frank Lally (Park Ridge, Ill.) pulled through for the final point, topping the Spartans' Tom Asavarachan, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0. The win pushes Lally to 5-5 on the year in singles play, including a 3-1 mark at number five singles.
Following suit with yesterday's win over Concordia, the Stars pulled out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning numbers two and three doubles. Lally and
Chandler Allen (Sterling, Ill.) topped the Spartans' Asavarachan Zach Wuthrich, 8-3 while
Quinn Porter (Michigan City, Ind.) and
John Mysz (LaGrange, Ill.) escaped with an 8-6 win at number two doubles.
The bottom of the Stars' singles lineup carried Dominican in singles play to secure the win. Mysz topped Matt Butler, 6-1, 7-5, while Allen won 6-3, 6-3 over Wuthrich at six singles.
The Stars now stand 5-7 on the year and 4-2 in the NACC. The Stars close out the regular season portion of their 2015 schedule next Saturday, heading to Milwaukee to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College and MSOE.
