The Dominican University men's tennis team got their first taste of outside competition on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Roosevelt University Lakers, 9-0.
Â
"We learned a lot about our team today," commented
Lenno Lasn, the Stars' head men's tennis coach. "After the match we were able to identify our strengths as well as the areas that we need to improve upon. We have grown as a team in our short two-week fall season and have very high expectations for the spring. We are confident that our upperclassmen and veteran players will step up as leaders during the offseason to ensure we are ready for the spring."
Â
Lasn's lineup on Tuesday was sprinkled with youth as sophomores competed at numbers one, two and four singles with a freshman making his collegiate debut at number six singles.
It was at the number four singles flight where Dominican came the closest to taking a point from the Lakers with Dominican's
Frank Lally (Park Ridge, Ill.) falling to Roosevelt's Cristiano Pennisi, 6-3, 6-4.
Â
The Stars will open their traditional spring slate on February 28, taking on the Webster University Gorloks and North Central College Cardinals in a pair of non-conference duals.
