The Dominican University men's tennis team knocked off Division Street and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) rival, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, 8-1. The win brings the Stars within one match of being .500 on the season.
Â
The Stars ran away with two doubles points with dominating wins from the two doubles team of
Frank Lally and Tony Morales, 8-2, and a three doubles combo of
Tarik Abdullah and
Chandler Allen, 8-0. Â Â
Â
"Another great road effort for the team," commented
Troy Tonsil. "Despite only taking two of three doubles matches, we were able to find great success in our singles matches."
Â
The Stars took all the singles flights in straight sets. Lally, Morales, and Allen won while only losing a total of 5 games between the three flights. The rest of the team had their hands' full, but each flight still came away with the wins.
Â
"The guys competed on every point, and this energy and focus will serve us well as we close out the end a three-match week tomorrow against Aurora University," said Tonsil.
Â
The team returns to the court tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. road match against NACC competition, Aurora University.
Â
Today's win tied up the Northwestern Mutual sponsored River Forest Rivalry Cup Series which takes place between Concordia University Chicago and Dominican University. Â The winner of the inaugural cup will be determined by Sunday's baseball doubleheader.
