Stars Knock Off Cougars

The Dominican University men's tennis team knocked off Division Street and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) rival, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, 8-1. The win brings the Stars within one match of being .500 on the season.

The Stars ran away with two doubles points with dominating wins from the two doubles team of Frank Lally and Tony Morales, 8-2, and a three doubles combo of Tarik Abdullah and Chandler Allen, 8-0.

"Another great road effort for the team," commented Troy Tonsil. "Despite only taking two of three doubles matches, we were able to find great success in our singles matches."

The Stars took all the singles flights in straight sets. Lally, Morales, and Allen won while only losing a total of 5 games between the three flights. The rest of the team had their hands' full, but each flight still came away with the wins.

"The guys competed on every point, and this energy and focus will serve us well as we close out the end a three-match week tomorrow against Aurora University," said Tonsil.

The team returns to the court tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. road match against NACC competition, Aurora University.

Today's win tied up the Northwestern Mutual sponsored River Forest Rivalry Cup Series which takes place between Concordia University Chicago and Dominican University.  The winner of the inaugural cup will be determined by Sunday's baseball doubleheader.
