The Dominican University men's tennis team wrapped up a spot in the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament this weekend, splitting a pair of conference dual matches. On Friday night, the Stars swept through the Marian University Sabres 9-0 before falling to the Edgewood College Eagles 9-0 on Saturday.
"The guys played with good effort and spirit," commented Troy Tonsil following the weekend's matchups. "We battled with one of the top teams in the conference for each and every point. We have seen the best that the conference has to offer. Though we didn't finish the regular season with a win, we learned a lot about our ability and what we need to do to advance in the NACC Tournament next week. I'm excited to be playing meaningful tennis in May."
With the split, the Stars push their overall record to 4-7, going 4-4 in the NACC to finish in fifth place in the conference standings. Dominican will travel to Aurora University on Monday to take on the Spartans in the quarterfinals of the NACC Tournament. The winner will advance to the conference's semifinal round which will be played on Sunday, May 7, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.
