2/15/2020 9:54:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The 12th-ranked Dominican University men's volleyball team improved to 7-0 on the season, picking up a pair of three-set wins on Saturday at the Igini Sports Forum, knocking off California Lutheran (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) in the opener before sweeping the #6 MSOE Raiders (25-12, 25-21, 25-23) in the nightcap.  The Stars hit .393 for the day with 80 kills total for the day on 150 total attack attempts while committing just 21 errors.

"Today was a great day for the program," said Cameron Andrew, the Stars' first-year head coach, following the day. "We started out ready to go against Cal Lutheran and then sustained that energy and effort throughout the MSOE match. I'm proud of how the team performed. Moving forward, we need to keep up this momentum and continue taking down opponents one at a time. We put a big emphasis on transition offense and that was much better today. Now I want to see us sustain our defensive intensity throughout an entire match."

In the morning sweep of the CLU Kingsmen, George Kougan carried the heavy hand, knocking down 16 kills on 29 swings while committing just two errors.  Jake Sidner joined Kougan with double-digit kills, terminating ten rallies on just 18 attempts.

Jack McGuire doled out 31 assists and picked up a team-best 12 digs for the double-double while Bregin DeMarco collected ten digs as the Stars limited the Kingsmen to a .230 attack percentage.  At the net, Mat Molloy picked up four block assists, getting in on all but one of Dominican's five blocks in the win.

In the evening sweep, the Stars slowed the Raiders' attack to a crawl, allowing the MSOE offense to hit just .174.  Dominican posted 11 total blocks and collected 35 digs to overpower the previously unbeaten Raiders.  DeMarco collected a team-high nine digs while Troy Kates posted a team-high five total blocks.  Kougan and Patrick Bradford added four apiece.

Offensively, McGuire ran the Stars to a .357 attack percentage with 29 assists.  Kougan again led the way with 11 kills while Kates knocked down eight kills, hitting .636 on 11 swings.

The Stars return to action on Tuesday, taking on the Concordia University Chicago Cougars in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) and River Forest Rivalry tilt at the Igini Sports Fourm.  The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
