Stars Sweep Eagles in Series Finale

Rosemont, IL - The Dominican University Softball team battled in cold and windy conditions and still managed to take both games in a doubleheader match-up with Edgewood College. The Stars would take game one 8-4 before finishing off the Eagles in five innings 12-2. 

Game One Recap: 

The Stars would strike first in the bottom of the first, plating two runs off of two errors by the Eagles to take an early 2-0 lead.

After the Eagles were able to plate one run in the fourth off of a walk, the Stars answered in the bottom of the inning combining for three runs to extend their lead to 5-1. 

In the fifth inning, errors would prove to be devastating as the Eagles defense committed three of their six total errors, and the Stars would yet again capitalize and score three more runs to give themselves a 7-1 lead. 

The Eagles showed some life in the sixth putting up two runs, including an inside the park homerun, to cut the Stars' lead to 7-4. The Stars would end the game after getting one final run across the plate to take game one 8-4.  

Allyson Dilday earned her first victory of the season by pitching a complete game, striking out four, and only allowing four hits.  
  
Game Two Recap

The Stars would handle the Eagles in game two going just five innings. Molly Stuhr went the distance and completed the sweep, gaining her second victory of the season, allowing just two runs off of six hits.

The Eagles scored first in the top of the first via a sacrifice fly to take the early 1-0 lead. After that, dominating hitting by the Stars and errors by the Eagles would prove to be key. 

The Stars led 2-1 before opening it up in the second inning. After plating one more run via an error, Theresa Wilsterman tripled to right field to bring in two more Stars for a 5-1 lead. Zoe Deeringer followed by singling to right to bring in Wilsterman to make it 6-1. Deeringer went 3-for-4 on the day with four RBIs. 

Kennedy Marvin would get in on the action in the third, scoring an inside-the-park home run to extend the Stars' lead by one. The Eagles then committed three of their five total errors to end the inning down 9-1. 

The Stars tacked on two more runs in the fourth to gain a 12-1 advantage before the Eagles scored a run via an RBI single to right field and complete game two, falling to the Stars 12-2. 


The Stars are back in action on Tuesday as they take on the Muskies of Lakeland University in a home doubleheader beginning at 4:00 pm.
