Fond Du Lac, WI – The Dominican University baseball team bounced back from a walk-off defeat in game one to earn a 7-1 win in game two to salvage a split with the Marian University Sabres on Wednesday night.

Game One:
Dominican got on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame when a Garrett Wano RBI single through the left side plated Tyler Trojan.

Marian responded in the second with a two-out rally to knot the game at 1-1 before a solo home run to right field in the third gave the Sabres a 2-1 lead after three innings of play.

Brandon Diedrich knotted the game at 2-2 in the fifth with a one-out RBI single to center that brought Bryant Bagshaw home after he reached on a throwing error.

After back-to-back singles by Keegan Brandt and Ryan Simak set the table in the sixth, a Grayson Downing sacrifice bunt moved each of them up a station. Camron Stafford stepped in next and delivered with a two-RBI single back up the middle to give the Stars a 4-2 advantage. The catcher would score on an RBI fielder's choice by Bagshaw as Dominican plated three in the frame to head to the late innings up 5-2.

Marian wasted little time responding as a leadoff double to start the sixth was followed by a throwing error to this time set the table for the Sabres. After a fly out to left, a pair of singles to centerfield cut the deficit to one, 5-4, heading to the seventh inning.

Dominican was unable to answer in the seventh but the Marian bats continued to stay hot at the dish with a pinch-hit leadoff single that was followed by a sacrifice bunt. A passed ball advanced the potential game-winning run to third but the following hitter popped up to shortstop to make it two outs. The Sabres once again got the timely hit when it counted as a single up the middle tied the game at 5-5. After an intentional walk to load the bases, another groundball found a hole as an RBI single through the right side walked it off for Marian 6-5.

Jeremey Davidson got the start but did not return after a rain delay with two outs in the fourth inning which shortened the game to seven innings.

The Stars recorded 10 hits with Brandt going 3-for-4 in the five spot. Simak had a nice game off the bench as he went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Game Two:
Marian got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning via the long ball to take a 1-0 lead but Dominican answered with two in the fifth on a bases-loaded two-out two-RBI single to left.

The wheels came off for the Sabres in the sixth as an error, a balk, and a pair of passed balls allowed the Stars to score four times for a 6-1 advantage.

Dominican tacked on another insurance run in the seventh due in part to another Marian error on its way to a 7-1 win.

"After the first game, we needed some sort of spark," said Head Coach Steve Hardman. "We have been spinning our tires for the last few weeks and the last three innings we put it all together."

Diedrich had a 2-for-4 second game with a pair of RBIs while the freshman Matt Galdi recorded a multi-hit game (2-for-3) as he handled the catching duties in the nightcap.

"We got a great outing from Tyler Kara and we put some needed pressure on them late in the game."

Tyler Kara started on the bump for the Stars, earning the win after throwing six innings of one-run ball with the lone mistake being the long ball back in the third inning.

The Stars head to Benedictine this Saturday, April 10th when they face the Eagles at noon.
