Box Score 2 RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's softball team opened Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with a bang, sweeping St. Norbert College by scores of 9-1 and 5-4 on Thursday evening.
Game One
DU's
Emma Woodhouse (4-0) was in the circle for the opener and earned the complete-game victory, striking out six while scattering four hits and surrendering just one earned run. Offensively, the Stars exploded for eight runs in the first and made that lead stick, winning 9-1 in a mercy-rule 4.5 inning ending.
Priscylla Rutter totaled three RBI on two hits to led the offensive effort.
Geneva Pollman also had a solid game at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Game Two
In the second game, St. Norbert took an early 4-1 advantage, but DU chipped away at its deficit, tying the game at 4-all after 5.0 innings.
Allyson Dilday (7-1) came on in relief of the starter Pollman and shut down the Green Knight offense in the final four frames, striking out six batters. This set the stage for a dramatic ending as
Theresa Wilsterman tripled to begin the bottom of the seventh before
Kailey Kirkwood delivered a walk-off RBI double, securing the 5-4 win.
Wilsterman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Makayla Barnes went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Kirkwood had two hits and one RBI.
