River Forest, Ill. - Senior
Garrett Wano, junior
Grayson Downing, and sophomore
Ethan Shepherd from the Dominican University baseball team have been named to the 2023 NACC All-Conference Teams.
Wano was a first-team selection and led the Stars in games started, OPS, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, total bases, and slugging. He supplied the power in the middle of the lineup for a Stars' team that needed someone to hit the ball over the wall.
"Garrett put together a great year at the plate and was a staple in the middle of our order," head coach
Steve Hardman said. "He set the single season HR record and also has his finger prints over more single season and career records. We hope that he decides to come back and play a 5th year next year, where he can solidify his place as one of the best players to ever wear a Stars uniform."
Downing was named as a second-team selection. He led the team in games started, average, at-bats, runs, hits, on-base percentage, and stolen bases. Downing was second in the conference in average and set the table with his elite ability to reach base and swipe bags.
"If not for an outstanding outfielders' lineup in our conference, Grayson would have been a first-team All Conference player," Hardman said. "For most of the year he hit .500 or better and was a tough out for every team. At times when we struggled as a team, he would just put us on his back and carry us. I'm excited to see what next year brings for him."
Lastly, Shepherd was named as an honorable mention for his work on the mound this season. Shepherd led starting pitching in ERA, WHIP, hits allowed, runs allowed, strikeouts, doubles allowed, triples allowed, home runs allowed, and batting average against. Shepherd was also named as the last regular season winner of the conference's player of the week awards.
Ethan had great numbers in conference and really made a name for himself as a legitimate arm in our conference," Hardman said. "The sky is the limit for him because of how hard he works in the off season and the drive he has to be better."
Dominican baseball went 16-22 and 9-15 in conference this past season.
