Stars Split Day One in Arkansas

Box Score Conway, Ark.- The Dominican University baseball team traveled to Arkansas to start off their season. The Stars would play Hendrix College and Millikin University while in Arkansas. 

DU would play Hendrix College in game one of their season. 

Game 1 Results:
Dominican:14
Hendrix:13

How it Happened:
-Dominican fell behind early giving up a run on two hits. 
-The Stars deficit got even wider in the second inning, with Hendrix scoring 5 runs on 3 hits. 
-Dominican got on the board in the top of the third inning when Senior Matthew Galdi delivered with an RBI single to left. DU added a second run in the same inning, with Sophomore Niko Krecu got hit by a pitch. 
-Hendrix would answer right back scoring 7 runs on 6 hits. 
-Dominican would scratch a run across the board when Galdi hits a sacrifice fly. 
-In the top of the fifth inning Senior Grayson Downing got the hit parade going with a two run double. Galdi picked up his 4th RBI of the game with a single to left. Freshman Quinton Schwartz collected his first collegiate RBI on a single to left field. To end the big inning for Dominican Junior CJ Kalekas singled to center getting Dominican within 4 runs.
-At the end of the fifth Dominican was down 13-9. 
-The Stars collected two more runs in the sixth. First with a RBI single to left from G.Downing, and Kalekas picking up his second RBI in as many innings with a single to right.  
-DU got the deficit to one when Sophomore Zach Helein walked with the bases loaded. 
-The score would hold at 13-12 in favor of Hendrix until the top of the ninth inning. 
-This is when Dominican would take the lead. The first run came when Junior AJ Davies scored on a wild pitch, and the second with Galdi continuing his day with an RBI double. 
-Senior Joey Haslam came in the bottom of the 9th to earn a three up, three down save. To earn the comeback win for the Stars. 

Shining Stars:
-Senior Matthew Galdi went 3-6 with 5 RBI's and scored 2 runs. 
-Senior Grayson Downing went 4-5 with 2 walks and collected 3 RBI's. 
-Junior AJ Davies went 3-3 with 2 walks, and scored 4 runs.
-Freshman Ty Phillips got his first collegiate win on the mound. Phillips came out of the pen and pitch 5.1 innings and did not give up a run.

SB: Schwartz, and Helein (1)

Game 2 Results:
Millikin:12
Dominican:6

How it Happened:
-Dominican and Millikin held each other scoreless until the fourth inning. 
-Millikin scored a run on 3 hits in the fourth. 
-DU tied the game up at 1 with Freshman Quinton Schwartz hitting a sacrifice fly to left. 
-Game stayed tied at 1 until the seventh inning when Millikin scored 8 runs on 7 hits. 
-The Stars answered back in the seventh with some runs of their own. Senior Matt Galdi picked up his first RBI in game two with a single to right field. Junior CJ Kalekas walked with bases loaded getting the score to 9-3. 
-DU continued in the seventh inning with Sophomore Niko Krecu singled to right center and scored 2 runs. The last run in the inning was scored with Matthew Partridge singled up the middle. 
-Millikin tacked on 3 runs on 2 hits in the top of the 9th. 

Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Zach Helein went 2-3 and scored 2 runs. 
-Sophomore Niko Krecu went 1-4 but led the Stars with 2 RBI's . 
-Senior Payton Brooks started on the bump and went 6 innings. Brooks gave up a run and had 3 strikeouts.

What's Next:
The Dominican University baseball team will finish up their action in Arkansas tomorrow morning with another crack at Millikin University. First pitch will be at 11:00 a.m.
