Box Score 2 Rosemont, Ill. – The Dominican University softball was back in action after a week break from gameplay. The Stars hosted the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday afternoon for senior night.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 7
Wisconsin Lutheran: 0
How it Happened:
-DU was held scoreless in the first inning, but got on the board in the second inning.
-The scoring got going with Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane hitting an RBI single to center field. Junior
Donatela Sommesi followed it up with a 2 RBI triple to right field.
-Dominican added 2 more in the bottom of the 3
rd inning. The first run off the bat of Senior
Geneva Pollman on a single to right field. Senior
Malia Gilles followed it up with her own RBI single to center field.
-The Stars took a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning.
-The score remained 5-0 until the bottom of the 6
th, when DU put up two runs. First run on a sacrifice bunt to the catcher from Junior
Emma Woodhouse, and the second on a first and third play that scored Sommesi.
-Dominican starting pitching held WLC to 5 hits and no runs in the game.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane started in the circle for the Stars and was dominate. Faber-Cournane threw 6.2 innings allowing 4 hits, and picking up 1 strikeout. Offensively Faber-Cournane went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and 2 runs scored.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Senior
Malia Gilles went 2 for 3 with an RBI
-Senior
Kennedy Marvin went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Game 2 Results:
Dominican: 9

How it Happened:
-Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Stars grabbed two runs. The first run coming off an RBI single by Junior Donatela Sommesi. Junior Emma Woodhouse followed it up with her own RBI single to left field.
-DU scratched a third run across on a sacrifice bunt from Woodhouse in the bottom of the 5
th.
-This is where the game got interesting, on both sides of the field. The 6
th inning showed a total of 11 runs. 5 of them by WLC on 4 hits.
-The bats woke up on the Dominican foul line also scoring 6 runs on 7 hits in the inning.
-Getting the scoring going was Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall hitting a 2 RBI triple to centerfield. Junior
Hanna Voegtle followed it up with an RBI single to center field. Sommesi continued the inning with an inside the park homerun to right field. The final run of the inning came off of the bat of Sophomore
Paytin Salfi.
-Dominican was able to shut down the WLC offense in the 7
th, to get a crazy win.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse started the game in the circle for the Stars going 5 and a third innings, with 3 strikeouts. Offensively, Woodhouse was the leader going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane came into the game pitching wise in the 6
th inning. Getting herself her 15 win of the season, and collecting 2 strikeouts in the process.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored.
-Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Junior
Lili Santoyo went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon. They will travel to Lakeland University for a big time match up against the Muskies. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 12:00 p.m.
