Box Score 2 Plymouth, Wis. – The Dominican University softball traveled to Lakeland University for their second series in as many days. The Stars and Muskies are at the top of the NACC standings with DU on top entering this afternoon.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican:0
Lakeland:3
How it Happened:
-The first three innings were very competitive with both teams not getting much going on the offensive side. Going to the fourth inning the game remained 0-0.
-Dominican threatened to score in the top of the 4
th inning getting the bases loaded with two outs, but were unable to get a run across the plate.
-Lakeland was able to get a run on a hit in the bottom of the 4
th.
-The Muskies added another run in the 5
th on 2 hits. This making the score 2-0.
-The Stars threatened once again in the sixth inning by getting runners on second and third with an out. DU was unable to get a run across the plate.
-Lakeland took advantage in the bottom half of the inning, by getting a run on two hits. This being the third straight inning the Muskies scored in.
-Dominican got a runner on first in the seventh but was not able to do any damage.
-This being the first time the Stars were shutout in a game this season.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Hanna Voegtle led the Stars going 2 for 3.

Emma Woodhouse started the game for DU, and threw 6 innings with a strikeout.

How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, with only one hit by both teams in the first.
-The Stars got on the board first in this game. Scoring 3 runs in the second inning.
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane brought home the first run of the day for DU, on a single to right field. Junior
Donatela Sommesi followed it up by reaching on a fielding error by the Lakeland second baseman, this bringing home the second run of the game. Final run of the inning was scored on a double steal, that resulted in a throwing error by the catcher, and Faber-Cournane scoring.
-Starting pitcher Faber-Cournane had a no-hitter going until the bottom of the 5
th when Lakeland go their first hit to center field. Faber-Cournane and Dominican was able to strand that runner at second base, and get out of the inning with a 3-0 lead.
-DU returned the favor by shutting out Lakeland, and earning a split in the series.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane continued to be dominate in the circle for the Stars throwing 7 shutout innings, and only giving up 2 hits. The first hit not until the 5
th inning. Faber-Cournane also led the Stars offensively, going 2 for 4 with an RBI, and a run scored.
-Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
-Junior
Lili Santoyo went 1 for 2 with a walk.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 1 for 3.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will have a day off before playing their final home game of the season. The Stars will host their Division Street Rivals Tuesday night. First pitch between CUC and DU will be at 5:00 p.m.
