River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Soccer team have chosen their team awards for their 2025 season. The men's soccer team votes on two awards: Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Most Improved Player (MIP). The coaching staff picks the coaches Award, an award that is given to a player who exemplifies commitment to the team, selflessness, hard work, and coachability.
Senior
Ryan Gutierrez lands the MVP award for the Stars. Gutierrez started in all 19 matches of the season and tallied 1537 minutes this season. The MVP collected 2 goals with an assist on 4 shots on goal this season as a midfielder for Dominican.
Head Coach
Erick Baumann commented on the MVP selection by the team by saying, "Guti had his best year of his career this past fall and he earned it. He came fit, in good playing form, was of the right mindset, and was ready to perform and lead from day one. He was a strong competitor who understood what it took to be successful on the field. We will miss him."
Freshman
Rogelio Cisneros collected the MIP in his freshman year for DU. Cisneros played in 13 matches and scored 2 goals in those matches. The freshman also landed 2 assists and 9 shots on goal. Both goals by Cisneros were game-winning goals for DUMSOC. Rogelio led the team in shots on goal percentage with more than 5 shots on target with a percentage of 0.563%.
Baumann commented on the MIP selection by the team by saying, "Roger is a great story of what it takes to overcome situations and earn and grow as a player. Throughout the fall he showed his abilities and really started to put them together toward the end of the season. As a freshman, I believe his best is yet to come. I have no doubt he can reach playing levels he doesn't yet realize."
Senior
Brendan Gavin earned the coaches award for the DUMSOC squad. Gavin, a captain or the Stars that did all the dirty work for DU. He was in every fight for the ball out out-hustling every player on the field in his 1096 minutes this season. Gavin picked up an assist this season.
Baumann commented on the coach's award by saying, "Gav was a tremendous captain for our program. What he does off the field doesn't show up in a box score and what he does as a defensive center midfielder doesn't either. He cannot get enough praise and recognition from our coaching staff for the contributions he made to our program. His teammates and coaches are better because of him. Saying we can replace his role will be misleading, and saying he will be missed is an understatement."
