River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Department of Athletics and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. John Planek, has announced the hiring of Mack Gonzalez as the Assistant Director for Athletic Administration.

Gonzalez, a Berwyn native, graduated from Dominican University in December of 2021 and has been working in administration since graduation.

Gonzalez had a stint here at DU in admissions as a counselor before moving to Lincoln Technical Institute and Elmhurst University, where he served as a Senior Admissions Counselor.

While an undergraduate student at Dominican University, Gonzalez served as a resident assistant, a TORCH leader, and worked in Student Life at the SIRC. All these jobs helped bring community throughout the campus, whether it was freshmen, one floor in the dorms, or the whole student population.

Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. John Planek commented on the hiring of Mack Gonzalez by saying, "Mack Gonzalez is a fine addition to our staff. Having graduated from Dominican and worked here, he has a great knowledge of the institution. This knowledge will serve our department well as we continue to recruit and retain the best and brightest student-athletes and to serve our coaches."

Gonzalez commented on being a Star by saying, "Returning to Dominican feels like coming home, and it is an honor to serve a department that had such an impact on me long before I ever worked here. As a student who connected closely with our teams on campus, I experienced firsthand the community, support, and genuine relationships that make Dominican so special. The friendships and mentors that I found in this department are what brought me back to DU and continue to inspire me to contribute to something bigger than myself. Each day, I am driven by the opportunity to support our student athletes through their demanding college journey, and I am fully committed to doing whatever I can to help them, our coaches, and this department succeed. GO STARS!"
