River Forest, Ill. – Amid finals week, Women's and Men's Basketball continued the fight for the NACC Tournament.
Women's Basketball took the court in three games this past week, including a rescheduled road contest at Monmouth College on Sunday in the second leg of a back-to-back. On Wednesday, the Stars faced off against their River Forest rival, Concordia Chicago, in the Igini Sports Forum. A sluggish start for DU was too much to overcome despite outscoring the Cougars 34-27 in the second half, as Dominican fell by a final score of 66-55. Freshman Eva Herbig led the way for the Stars, as the Freshman dropped 15 points and was 5-9 from three. Junior Kaitlyn Milison chipped in 11 points alongside 4 rebounds. On Saturday, DU earned a major bounce-back win over Maranatha Baptist by a final score of 81-39. The Stars outscored the Sabercats 50-14 in the first half, and 15 players recorded at least 2 points in the win. Junior Teagan Dahl posted a team-high 12 points while adding 3 steals, and Junior
Aya Deiri and Freshman Jaylani Herandez both moved into a tie for 7
th all-time for steals in a single game in DUWBB history with 6 apiece. A quick turnaround for Dominican saw the Stars take on the Scots of Monmouth College on Sunday. The Scots pulled away from DU in the fourth quarter, and the Stars ultimately dropped the non-conference game by a final score of 71-59. Junior Lia Saunders posted a team-high 17 points along with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Freshman Kennedy Yost recorded the second double-double of her career, totaling 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Stars are on the road for their only game this week at Mount Mary University on Tuesday, December 16
th. Tip-off against the Blue Angels is slated for 1:00 p.m.
Men's Basketball hosted a pair of games during the week, starting on Wednesday against Concordia Chicago. A low-scoring first half saw the Cougars pull away from DU in the second, as the Stars came up short by a final score of 72-61. Freshman Elijah Daugherty contributed a team-leading 18 points off the bench in the contest alongside 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomore Braydon Murphy was the other Star in double digits in scoring, tallying 14 points and 9 rebounds. Following CUC, Dominican played host to Adrian College in a shift back to nonconference play on Saturday. Saturday's game saw a combined 52 fouls, placing free throws at a premium. The Stars could not stifle the Bulldog offense and ultimately suffered a 93-88 defeat. Sophomore Frank Paszkowski notched 21 points and 6 rebounds, while Murphy added 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. The Stars head into a busy portion of their schedule before the holiday break, with three games this week. First, DU will head to Wartburg College on Monday, December 15
th, for a 4:00 p.m. tip against the Knights. Dominican will then travel to Mequon, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, December 17
th to face the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin for a 7:00 p.m. tip. Finally, DU will return home to take on Lawrence University on Saturday, December 20
th. Tip-off against the Vikings is slated for 1:00 p.m.
Stars of the Week for the week of December 8th to December 14th:
Freshman Kennedy Yost of Women's Basketball received Star of the Week honors. Over the three games this past week, Yost collected 26 points, 16 rebounds, 8 assists, and a double-double.
Freshman Elijah Daugherty of Men's Basketball was named Star of the Week. Daugherty continues to be a factor off the bench for the Stars, as the Freshman totaled 36 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds, and was 17-19 from the free throw line during DU's two games last week.
