No. 19 Stars Prepare for Showdown with No. 6 Carthage in Game of the Week

River Forest, Ill. – #19 Dominican University Men's Volleyball prepares to host #6 Carthage on Saturday for KP’s DIII Game of the Week.


Series History vs. Carthage:

Dominican and Carthage first played on 2/26/2014 in Kenosha, Wis. (L, 0-3) 

All-Time Record / Streak: 5-11 / Dominican L1 

Last Meeting (2/8/2024): Dominican 2, Carthage 3 (25-22, 18-25, 17-25, 25-23, 10-15)

Record at home against Carthage: 2-4

 

DU in Review:

-The Stars hold a 2-4 record this season with a 1-1 record at home.

-Dominican began the 2025 season with three matches in Santa Cruz, California as part of the Slug Fest Tournament

-The Slug Fest Tournament marked the first time the Stars have traveled to the state of California since 2019, where they would drop a pair of matches to the University of California, Merced, and the University of California, Santa Cruz. 
 -The 2025 season marks the 2nd season with Head Coach Doug Burchett at the helm. The Stars finished the 2024 season with a record of 19-8 and were 11-1 in conference.  
 -DU heads into the 2025 season looking to defend their 2024 NACC Regular Season and Tournament titles.

 

Last Time Out:

-The Stars fell in five sets to Illinois Wesleyan, 2-3 (25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 13-15) on Thursday, February 6th in a non-conference match in Bloomington, Ill.
 -Senior Casey Goss paced Dominican with 19 kills and added 10 digs.  
 -Freshman Landon Diaz collected 9 kills and 6 total blocks in his first collegiate appearance.

 

Star Gazing:

-Senior Casey Goss has led the attack for DU this season, averaging 3.88 kills per set on .269 hitting, and has started all of Dominican’s 6 matches.
 -Sophomore Ty Geschke averages 3.34 kills per set and is 2nd on the team with 50 total kills on the campaign. 
 -Sophomore Grant Henderson leads the Star’s defense with 48 total digs.

 

Game of the Week:

-The match between Dominican and Carthage was selected as KP’s NCAA DIII Game of the Week for the first time in program history.
 -Additional content surrounding the match, such as an interview with Head Coach Doug Burchett, will be released on volleyballmag.com.

 

Familiar Faces:
     -Dominican has five of their top six kill leaders returning from the 2024 season, with Senior Casey Goss leading the way with 349 total kills, equaling 3.60 kills per set.
     -Goss was awarded NACC Player of the Year honors in 2024 and was also an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, AVCA All-West Regional Team, and NACC First Team All-Conference recipient. Goss led the Stars in kills, aces, digs, and sets played while being 3rd in total blocks.
     -Junior Michael Greco and Senior Jason Kougan resume their roles as the Stars' pair at Middle Blocker. Greco paced Dominican in 2024 with 85 blocks, followed by Kougan's 83.
     - Senior Owen Morrow returns as DU's setter. Morrow was able to tally 918 assists in the 2024 campaign and started in all of Dominican's 27 matches.

 

Scouting Report:
-Carthage holds a 6-2 record in the 2025 season.

-The Firebirds are 1-0 on the road.

-CC competed in the FrogJump Invitational and finished with a 2-1 record, defeating Juniata and Baldwin Wallace while falling to Stevens in five.
