Stars Drop Both in Final Regular Season Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 River Forest, Ill. – Dominican University Softball had one final tune up for the NACC Tournament against Concordia Chicago on Saturday.

Game 1 Results:
Concordia Chicago: 5
Dominican: 4

How it Happened:
-The Stars struck first in the top of the second, which started with a single by Junior Ryley Davis. Following Ry. Davis' single, Sophomore Kailee Diaz Randall grounded out, but scored Sophomore Charlize Gonzalez, who pinch ran for Ry. Davis.
-CUC knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
-In the top of the third, Dominican took a 2-1 lead after Junior Hanna Voegtle's single, followed by Freshman Raegyn Davis singling through the infield, which brought Voegtle home.
-Senior Emma Woodhouse pitched a 1-2-3 inning with three groundouts in the bottom of the third, preserving DU's lead.
-In the top of the fourth, Diaz Randall singled up the middle, then reached third after a hit by Freshman Sara Cornell. Voegtle then flew out to center, but brought home Diaz Randall, giving Dominican a 3-1 advantage.
-The Cougars clawed back a run in the bottom of the fourth.
-DU doubled their lead in the top of the fifth via an RBI double by Ry. Davis, which scored Freshman Isabella Olmos.
-Concordia Chicago cut the Stars' lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
-In the bottom of the seventh, CUC loaded the bases, tied the game, and eventually brought home the winning run, defeating DU 5-4.
Shining Stars:
-Freshman Raegyn Davis finished 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
-Junior Ryley Davis was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
-Sophomore Kailee Diaz Randall went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Senior Hanna Voegtle was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game 2 Results (F/5):
Dominican: 11

How it Happened:
-The Cougars opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a 1-0 lead.
-DU took the lead in the top of the third inning, which started with a single by Senior Gillian Czubernat. After Czubernat advanced to third, Freshman Raegyn Davis was able to bring her home on a single through the infield. Freshman Isabella Olmos then doubled to center, scoring Ra. Davis and ultimately giving Dominican a 2-1 lead.
-CUC answered in the bottom of the third and regained the advantage, 3-2.
-In the bottom of the fourth, Concordia Chicago added 5 runs and extended their lead to 8-2.
-Facing an 8-2 deficit, the Stars bats came alive in the top of the sixth. It started with a bases-loaded single by Senior Liliana Santoyo, which scored Freshman Sara Cornell. Ra. Davis was then hit by a pitch, bringing home Senior Priscylla Rutter. Olmos then singled to right, scoring all of Ra. Davis, Santoyo, and Voegtle. Following this, Junior Paytin Salfi then singled and drove in Olmos. Freshman Madisen Butler concluded the flurry with a double to left, scoring Freshman Tamaih Jefferson. When the dust settled, DU had a 9-8 lead.
-In the bottom half of the sixth, the Cougars quickly countered and regained the lead at 10-9.
-Needing a rally in the top of the seventh, Rutter singled to right field. Santoyo then doubled to left center field, scoring Cuzbernat, who pinch ran for Rutter. The game was tied at 10-10 and would head into extra innings.
- Dominican got two runners on in the top of the 8th inning but no real threat to score a run as both runners were stranded. 
-CUC's first two batters were retired before a two out walk, leading to that runner being stranded the next better. 
-The Stars went three-up and three-down in the 9th inning. 
-Concordia Chicago repeated their eighth inning in the ninth with teh first two batters getting out followed by a single and then being stranded on first. 
-The 10th inning is where runs were founf. Dominican got two runs in their half of the tenth. Cornnell gave the Stars the lead with a scarfice fly to left field scoring Olmos. The next batter was Czubernat who hit a clutch double to left field that brought around Ry. Davis to give the Stars a 12-10 lead. 
-The Cougars found the answer though scoring 3 runs on 4 hits and walking off Dominican for the second straight game. 

Shining Stars:
-Freshman Isabella Olmos found her swing again going 3-6 with 4 RBI's,  2 runs scored, a stolen base and a double. 
-Junior Ryley Davis was on fire this afternoon going 4-6 with with a run scored, a double, and a stolen base. 
-Freshman Raegyn Davis went 3-5 with 2 RBI's and a 2 runs scored. 
-Senior Liliana Santotyo continued to be a leader for this team going 2-6 with 2 RBI's, a run scored, and a double. 
-Senior Gillian Czubernat was clutch for the Stars going 2-3 with a walk, an RBI, two runs scored, and a double.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball moves to 30-10 overall on the season and is 19-5 in the NACC. The Stars have finsihed their regular season and will await their draw for the NACC tournament. Dominican has clinched a 1 or 2 seed in the tournament, and will find out tomorrow if it is a 1 seed or a 2 seed, depending on the results of the series between CUW and CUC. This 30 win season is the fourth straight season DU softball has reached the 30 win mark.
