Men's Volleyball Prepares for First Doubleheader of the Season

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Volleyball team continues their busy schedule with three games in three days on Saturday in the Igini Sports Forum.

Series History vs. Wabash:
All-Time Record / Streak: 2-0 / W2
-Dominican and Wabash first played on 2/8/2022 inside the Igini Sports Forum. The Stars won 3-0.
-DU is 2-0 against Wabash on their home court, both wins ended in sweeps.
-Last season, these two schools met on 3/7/2025 with Dominican winning 3-0.
 
Series History vs. Mount Union:
All-Time Record / Streak: 0-0
This will be the first-ever meeting between Dominican and Mount Union
 
DU in Review:
-DU is 5-1 (1-0 NACC) on the 2026 season.
-Dominican is 3-1 on their home court.
-The Stars finished the 2025 season with a 14-11 record and went 9-3 in conference.
-Dominican spent the preseason abroad in Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia to tune up for the 2026 campaign.
-The 2026 season marks the 3rd season with Head Coach Doug Burchett at the helm. Burchett has amassed a 33-19 record since becoming head coach at Dominican.
 
Last Time Out:
 -Dominican won a five-set thriller over the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan, Thursday evening.
-Junior Thomas Hirsch led the Stars in attacking with 12 kills on .529 hitting, alongside 2 aces and 6 blocks.
-Junior Ty Geschke notched 11 kills on .304 hitting and added 4 aces and 8 digs.
-Graduate Student Casey Goss totaled 10 kills and 2 blocks.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke dished 42 assists in the victory.
- Junior Grant Henderson amassed 12 digs


Hirsch Wins Second Consecutive NACC Defensive Player of the Week:
 -Junior Thomas Hirsch took home NACC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of 1/26 – 2/1.
 -Hirsch totaled 11 blocks and 5 digs across DU's two matches last week.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Ty Geschke has led the attack for the Stars, totaling 58 kills for 2.76 kills per set. Geschke has added 29 digs and 12 blocks in the early stages of the season.
-Sophomore Kendall Esparza is 2nd on Dominican in kills with 51, which averages to 2.43 kills per set. The sophomore leads the Stars in aces with 13.
-Junior Thomas Hirsch has been lights out through the middle for the Stars, tallying 48 kills and a team-leading 35.0 blocks.
-Sophomore Landon Kassulke is the leading playmaker for Dominican, notching 191 assists for 9.10 assists per set.
-Senior Michael Greco is 4th on Dominican in kills with 32 and 3rd in total blocks with 17.0.
-Junior Grant Henderson has held down the back row for DU, totaling a team-high 51 digs.
 
Familiar Faces:
-Junior Ty Geschke returns from a strong Sophomore season. Geschke led the Stars in kills (275) and kills per set (3.62), was second in aces (56), and was third in blocks (38.0).
-Graduate Student Casey Goss will assume his place as the starting opposite hitter for DU, following up a Senior season that included 165 kills, 47 aces, and 22 blocks.
-Sophomore Kendall Esparza is back to don the Navy and Gold and looks to build upon a Freshman season of 82 kills, 23 aces, 45 digs, and 9 starts.
-Senior Michael Greco, Junior Thomas Hirsch, and Freshman Landon Diaz look to solidify the middle blocking position for Dominican. Hirsch led all middle blockers with 96 kills, while Greco led the 2025 squad in blocks with 44.0.
-Senior Tyler Vrska and Junior Grant Henderson return as the libero duo for the Stars. Henderson led DU with 126 digs last season, while Vrska finished fourth with 112.
 
Scouting Report:
-Wabash is 1-1 overall early in the season.
-The Little Giants swept Maranatha Baptist and got swept by Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Scouting Report:
-Mount Union is 5-3 overall and currently riding a 3-game win streak. The Purple Raiders beat St. Norbert (3-0), Misericordia University (3-1), and Hiram College (3-1).
-Mount Union will play two games on February 6th (tonight) at North Park, playing North Park University and Aurora University.
-The Purple Raiders will also play Concordia University Chicago at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow before coming to Igini Sports Forum.
