Men's Soccer Alum Spotlight - Martin Lamas

5/19/2026 10:28:00 AM

Men's soccer and sports information will be taking advantage of the off-season months to catch up with some of our men's soccer alum to reflect on their experience at Dominican University (or Rosary College).  Today we catch up with Martin Lamas from the class of 2022.

What have you been up to since graduating from Dominican?
Since graduating from Dominican, I began my professional career at Morningstar within the North American Corporate Real Estate group.  In my role, I balance analytical work with client‑facing responsibilities, which has helped me develop both technical and interpersonal skills.  I've also had opportunities to travel domestically and internationally for work and personal enjoyment.  Outside of work, I continue to stay active by playing soccer in recreational leagues throughout the Chicagoland area.

What do you miss most about Dominican?
What I miss most is the sense of togetherness and unity within the team.  It's difficult to replicate an environment where individuals are united by a shared goal and willing to hold one another accountable.  The friendships that come from that kind of experience are truly unique, and I'm grateful to carry those memories with me.

What was your most memorable moment while at Dominican?
My most memorable moment was our 2019 trip to Holland, Michigan, for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  While the result didn't go our way, the experience itself is something I'll never forget.  I remember the cold weather, the excitement, and the nerves we all felt as a team.  Regardless of the outcome, I walked off the field proud of myself, my teammates, and the opportunity to represent Dominican.

What advice would you give to an incoming player?
I would encourage incoming players to appreciate every moment, especially the difficult ones.  While it may not be obvious at first, everything you learn as a student‑athlete translates directly to life beyond sports.  The more you embrace those challenges and lessons, the easier it becomes to apply them in your personal and professional life.  I would also strongly recommend taking advantage of the alumni network, there is a genuine willingness among former players to support and help one another succeed.
